Nick ran his tongue over his teeth, shaking out his legs as he kept his eye peered on the pitcher. The sweat that clung to his tan skin ran down the side of his neck and under the collar of his shirt. His hair was matted and stuck to his head under the cap he wore, that was doing little to keep the sun out of his eyes. He lifted the front of his uniform, white and stained from the dirt and sweat of the game, to his face to rid the salted water from his eyes before watching his teammate run to first base, pushing all the runners one spot forward and filling the bases.
He paused, taking in a deep breath, heart hammering in his chest as his fingers gripped the chain of the fence that separated him and the field before hearing the coach yell out from in front of him. “Sterling! You’re up!”
The brunette whipped his head around, watching as his other teammate walked toward him with a smile, bat swinging slightly in his hand. Wiping any expression from his face, he nodded as the blonde reached him. “You good?” He watched as Jeff nodded, eyes watching the pitcher. “Hey.” The blonde continued to ignore him and finally Nick’s hand came up lightly hitting him on the side of the head. “Hey!” The other boy turned finally, blinking at him and slightly confused until Nick placed his hands on his shoulders and shook him slightly. His voice came out light, confident. “You got this, alright?” His eyes moved from one of Jeff’s to the other, nodding. “This is just another mission, Six.”
Jeff’s confused and anxious face slowly was covered in a lopsided smile and he nodded in return. “Yeah. Got this, Three.”
Nick’s hands dropped and he watched Jeff turn slightly, facing the pitcher. He shook himself out, taking in a deep breath and letting it out between his lips. As soon he started walking away, the sunlight slowly covering him and reveling the large red “6” as he left the dugout, Nick grinned and his hand snapped out, smacking the other teen in the ass and giving him a slight squeeze.
Jeff threw a look over his shoulder, continuing to walk, thrusting his hips forward slightly and grinning at the wink he received from the brunette. He continued until he was dead-on with his opponent, hitting the bat to the heals of his cleats and smiling to himself until he brought the metal up with both hands and waved it slightly over his shoulder.
Breathing evenly, he blinked and kept his eyes trained in front of him, heart pounding in his ears as he forced out the jeers from the crowd and the opposing team, focusing on the hit, the snap of the the wrist… He missed. There was a cheer in the crowd and he cursed, shuffling his feet slightly to chance a look behind him, coach holding up his hands in an obscene message to hold the bat another way and even further where he watched Nick watching him. Then he saw the hand come up, three fingers held out and Jeff’s chest jumped. His own came up, fingers curving to make an “O” with one finger held up before he turned back around, bat at the ready for the next pitch.
There was a moment of complete silence, everything disappeared from his sight and hearing except for the vision of the person in front of him and the wind against his ears. His fingers tightened around the metal and he he squinted, before letting his shoulders loosen just as the arm of the pitcher came forward and there was a loud and piercing crack in the air. He dropped the bat, dashing forward with all the power in his legs as he rounded a base, keeping his eyes in front of him, looking for the next until he rounded that and the next one too.
He pushed forward, blood pumping and farms and legs swinging viciously as he ran home, foot coming forward and the other leg curling under him as he slid forward through the dirt, fogging the air as his cleat hit something hard, chest tightening and then springing forward as he heard the yelling of “safe” in his ears and he jumped up, cheering at the applause around him and the roar of the crowd.
Tons of smiling faces rushed forward as he panted, hands coming up to pat him on the shoulders and ruffle his head until his cap came off. He nodded, smiling widely before he felt a figure come up behind him and he turned to face the slightly shorter teen, a grin just as wide on his face. “Told ya, you could do it.”
Jeff chuckled and rolled his eyes, fisting his hands in the front of the Nick’s jersey and pulling him forward quickly as he crashed their lips together, running his tongue on the inside of the brunettes mouth with a sigh. His arms came up, wrapping around Nick’s shoulders and pulling him closer as their lips moved slowly. He felt a pair of hands on his hips and the sounds of their teammates and supporters disappeared as heat built in his face and stomach until they smiled against one another and pulled away, slightly at a loss of breath for a whole new reason.
Jeff hummed softly and his voice came out with a serene sense of accomplishment. “Thank you.”
Nick smirked, teeth showing as he ran his hands up Jeff’s sides slowly. “No problem. I knew all you needed was a smack in the ass for some confidence.”
The brunette laughed loud and outright and rolled his shoulder a little at the slight pain caused by his boyfriend until a shiver ran down his spine when Jeff asked him for a reward… in private.
