It almost looks like he’s pausing to rewind time, to watch that moment over again, just to make sure he didn’t mishear. Because this is Dean, his Dean, and Dean would never ask someone to kill a friend or family, something he always hoped he was to him. Never.

And then this awful blankness settles in over his face because, even as a god, Dean is still able to set him off balance and it isn’t right. A mere man shouldn’t have this kind of power over his Lord. He has to hide it, that awful twist inside of him, but it still leaks out of his eyes like the color is slowly draining from them to puddle on the floor at his feet.

For a moment, through the blinding, undulating mass of souls within him clouding his vision and his judgement, he’s Castiel again, if only in his eyes. He’s an angel trapped within a mistake, unable to control himself as he once did.

But in a blink Castiel is gone and, once again, a god stands in his place all filled up with wrath and fire and perceived righteousness.
